GoI committed to skill development of Ladakh youth, says Ministry of Skill Dev

Srinagar: The Government of India on Monday informed the Upper House of Parliament that it is focusing on fictional training of locals for which funds have been allocated to 24 training centres in which 2,267 trainees have been trained so far in Ladakh Union Territory.

The Information was shared by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in Rajya Sabha in response to the questions including whether GoI proposes to focus on vocational and technical training of the locals involved in the unorganized sector and plans to establish a separate Skill Training Institute to engage the youth of Ladakh

In response to the questions raised in Rajya Sabha, the Ministry in a written reply said that the government has been focusing on vocational and technical training of locals in the unorganized sector through various programmes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS).

“So far under PMKVY 2.0, 99,31,261 persons have been trained in the country, while under JSS, 12,35,114 persons have been trained”, the Ministry informed.” The total funds allocated for PMKVY 2.0 so far is Rs. 6,203 crores, while for JSS the funds allocated so far are Rs. 396.21 crores.”

The reply reads that as far as UT Ladakh is concerned, PMKVY 2.0 has been being implemented in 24 training centres, in which 2,267 trainees are trained so far and 1,568 certified.”

It reads that the Directorate General of Training (DGT) in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has started an extension Centre of National Skill Training Institute (NSTI -W) Jammu at Leh. “In this – NSTI Extension Centre two New Age Courses under Craftsmen Training Scheme have been introduced from this training session which includes Technician cum app tester Electronics & Hardware with 24 seats, Solar Technician (Electrical) Environmental Science with 20 seats”, the reply reads.

It also said that in addition, there is one Government Industrial Training Institute imparting skill training in Leh, Ladakh includes Computer Operator & Programming Assistant IT & ITES 24-Seats, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle) Automobile 24-seats, Sewing Technology Textile & Apparel 16-seats, Stenographer & Secretarial Assistant (English) Travel, Tourism and Hospitality 24-seats.

The ministry stated that the consolidated Budget of Rs. 1.35 Crore is provided to Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (RDSDE), Jammu which is for NSTI (W) Jammu, Leh Extension Centre and Srinagar Extension Centre. “With the allocated budget, the laboratories are being set up for the training for the above two courses i.e Smart Phone Technician & Solar Technician (Electrical),” the reply mentions.
