‘Efforts on to persuade two hiding militants for surrender, sanctity of mosque being maintained’
Shopian: Three militants have been killed while two more are hiding in a masjid in Jan Mohalla of Shopian district and efforts are on to persuade them to surrender keeping in view the sanctity of the mosque, officials said on Friday.
Four armed forces personnel identified as Sepoy Ram Dev, Sepoy Drug Singh Sepoy Raj Kumar and Sepoy, Laximan Narayan, have sustained injuries and all are stable.
A top police official told Kashmir News Observer that so far three militants have been killed and two others are hiding in the mosque. “We are using tear-gas shells in view of the sanctity of the masjid,” he said. Two AK 47 rifles have been recovered so far.
Pertinently, police also sent a brother of a hiding militant along with a local imam inside the mosque to persuade them to surrender but efforts didn’t fructify.
The operation broke out yesterday after a joint team of armed forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and GoC victor force have been personally monitoring the situation. Internet has been snapped in Shopian and Pulwama districts since yesterday.
