Bihar chief secretary Arun Kumar Singh dies of COVID

Bihar: The chief secretary of Bihar Arun Kumar Singh died of coronavirus infection on Friday as he was undergoing treatment for COVID at Paras HMRI hospital in Patna.

Singh was appointed the new chief secretary of Bihar after the retirement of his predecessor Deepak Kumar on February 28. A 1985-batch IAS officer, Arun was scheduled to retire on August 31 this year.

Prior to being posted as chief secretary, Singh had served in various posts including that of the development commissioner and the director-general in gramin vikash sansthan among others.

According to reports, Singh had also served in the water resources department as principal secretary and as secretary in road construction and science and technology department too.

His predecessor Dipak Kumar had been made advisor to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after retirement.

Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar and others at the state cabinet meet expressed condolences over the death of the chief secretary.
