Cop arrested for opening fire in marriage ceremony amid dispute over wearing mask

Rajouri: A Special Police Officer, engaged as PSO of a local Municipal Chairman, was arrested and booked for opening fire over an alleged dispute with some youth for not wearing a mask in a marriage function in Rajouri, officials said.

A police official said that a case (FIR no 72/2021) under IPC sections of 307 and 336 has lodged against the cop identified as Avanish Sharma.
The SPO had fired in the air and there were no injuries to anybody, the official said.

However, many people who were in attendance at the marriage function had objected to it and some also staged protest, demanding action against the cop who was on guard duties with Municipal chairman Ravinder Sharma.

“The PSO has been arrested and further investigations are underway,” SDPO Nowshera Zakir Shaheen Mirza said. (GNS)
