Srinagar: No congregational Eid prayers were offered at Hazratbal shrine, Jamia Masjid and other major shrines across Jammu and Kashmir in wake of the lockdown imposed by the administration to thwart the spread of Coronavirus.
Witnesses said that police and paramilitary troopers have been deployed in strength on roads across Srinagar and roads have been blocked at several places, saying that concertina wires have been erected on main roads and no vehicle movement was allowed to move.
Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had announced that there shall be no relaxation in restriction on Eid-ul-Fitr.
The restrictions continued to remain in place in Jammu and Kashmir for the 14th straight day to prevent the virus from spreading. The administration has announced Corona Curfew across Jammu and Kashmir till May 17.
City’s grand mosque – Jamia Masjid and Dargah Hazratbal, where thousands used to offer prayers on Eid, were locked as the mosque management committee had asked people to offer prayers at local mosques instead to avoid crowding at one place.
Pertinently, this is the fourth consecutive Eid-ul-Fitr in Kashmir which is being celebrated in a sombre atmosphere.
