All applications for Hajj 2021 cancelled, says Hajj Committee of India
Srinagar: In view of the decision by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hajj Committee of India on Tuesday cancelled all applications for the Hajj this year.
“The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued a statement informing that due to Corona Pandemic conditions ‘The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to allow citizens and residents inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia only to attend Hajj 1442 in limited numbers.
International Haj has been cancelled,” read a circular issued Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed Khan.
“Hence it has been decided by the Hajj Committee of India that all the applications for Hajj-2021 stands cancelled,” the circular adds. The annual pilgrimage starts from mid-July.
Earlier Saudi Arabia had said that this year’s hajj pilgrimage will be limited to no more than 60,000 people, all of them from within the kingdom, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, 60,471 coronavirus cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, a 75-day low, as per Health Ministry data on Tuesday morning. The last time the country had registered below 60,000 cases was on March 30. After having swelled up to more than 37 lakh cases in peak second wave, India’s active coronavirus infections have dropped below the 10 lakh mark after 66 long days.
