People alienated to the extent of separation in JK, says Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar: Soon after declaring her participation in the All-Party Meet led by Narendra Modi in New Delhi on June 24, Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti said that the “abrogation of article-370 and 35A has made the separatist sentiment stronger in Kashmir”.
In an interview with the NDTV, Mufti after the conclusion of the People’s Alliance of Gupkar Declaration’s (PAGD) meeting said that they have a clear agenda and the leaders will talk according to what has been discussed in the meeting.
“When the meeting will end, we will brief you on what has been done there, what we said, and what was the response,” PAGD had told reporters after the meeting.
Mehbooba said that GoI weakened the bridge acted by Jammu and Kashmir politicians by what it did on August 5, 2019. “By abrogating the special status of JK, GoI is weakening India in the erstwhile state,” she said.
She said that there shall be no compromise on Article 370 and Article 35A which was annulled by the ruling dispensation at New Delhi on 5 August 2019 while imposing security and communication clampdown in the entire JK and detaining or arresting thousands of people including the mainstream leaders.
The PDP chief added that on one hand GoI went to Doha and talked to the Taliban but here in Kashmir it “kills our own boys”. “You see more young boys of 16-17 ages are picking up guns. The situation is not getting better,” Mehbooba said.
On Monday, Indian diplomats paid a ‘quiet visit’ to Doha, according to Qatar’s Special Envoy Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, to have talks with the Afghan Taliban’s political leadership based there.
Referring to the GoI, Mehbooba asked how long it will “suppress people, whether journalists or common people”.
Earlier, the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) announced that a team headed by Farooq Abdullah and comprising PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti and amalgam’s spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami will attend the All Party Meeting called by Prime Minister Nadrendra Modi in New Delhi on June 24.
“We have received an invitation from Prime Minister and we are going to attend,” Farooq Abdullah, who heads the amalgam, told reporters after the meeting of the PAGD leaders at his residence.
“We are confident that we will put our stand before Prime Minister and Home Minister,” Farooq, NC Chief and the member parliament from Srinagar, said.
The PAGD is an alliance of six parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the NC and the PDP, formed in the aftermath of the GoIs August 2019 decision to nullify Article 370 and split J&K into two union territories. The group’s public stand is for the restoration of the special status of the ‘state’ of J&K.
To a question about those representing the PAGD at the meeting, Farooq said that he himself, Mehbooba Mufti and M Y Tarigami will be attending the meeting.
Tarigami, the spokesman of the PAGD, said that there should be no “mistaken belief that we are going to sign on the agenda set by them. We are going to see what the proposal is. If it is in the interest of people we say yes and if otherwise there is going be big no.”
