54,336 COVID cases, 1,321 deaths reported in 24 hours in India

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India recorded 54, 336 COVID cases and 1,321 deaths, the country’s Health Ministry said. With this the country’s total caseload has risen to over 3 crore, while the death toll has surged to 3.91 lakh. Meanwhile, the active caseload has dropped to 6.27 lakh.

On Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh reported its first death of a patient identified with the Delta-Plus variant of Covid-19 in Ujjain district. Five confirmed cases of Delta-Plus variant has so been reported in the state — three from Bhopal and two others from Ujjain district.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday said it is prepared to face a possible third wave of the coronavirus infection in the metropolis and has put in place required medical facilities to deal with a surge in cases.

In the wake of a possible third wave of cases, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that priority would be given to inoculate women having children aged up to 12 years. She also said that the state would start inoculating at least four lakh people on an average daily from Thursday.
