Srinagar: Three days after Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi chaired an All Party Meeting with politicians from Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi, the Government of India has now invited Kargil leadership for talks on July 1, official sources revealed.

Sources said that Kargil politicians will meet Minister of State for Home G Kishen Reddy in Delhi on July 1. Former Congress legislator Asgar Karbalai confirmed that they have been invited by the GoI for talks. “We will be meeting MoS Home G Kishen Reddy on July 1. All the leaders from Kargil who have been invited will attend the meet,” he said.

The meeting comes barely three days after Narendra Modi chaired All Party-Meet with JK leaders. It is pertinent to mention that the majority of JK leaders who participated in the meeting demanded the restoration of article 370 and full statehood to JK.

Modi held talks with politicians from Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday and told them that the Government of India’s priority is to strengthen grassroots democracy there for which delimitation has to happen quickly for polls to be held.

This was the first interaction in JK since August 5, 2019, when the GoI revoked its special status provided under Article 370 and bifurcated the state into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
