Twitter shows JK, Ladakh as separate countries on its website

New Delhi: Twitter has once again displayed Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh as separate countries and not part of India.

The map, which appears on the career section of the micro-blogging platform, shows Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh detached from the country and shown as separate countries.

This is, however, not the first time that Twitter has shown the Union territories of India as separate countries. The Government of India had last year written to the Twitter CEO, conveying its strong disapproval over the misrepresentation of the map of India after Twitter showed the geo-location of Leh in Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Republic of China.

In a warning, the GoI had said any attempt by Twitter to disrespect India’s “sovereignty and integrity is totally unacceptable”.

Pertinently, the US digital giant is in a tussle with GoI over the new social media rules.
