Heroin worth Rs 126 crores seized at Delhi Airport, 2 arrested

New Delhi: Customs officials at Delhi airport intercepted two South Africans and seized heroin worth Rs 126 crore and weighing 18 kg from them. The incident was reported on Sunday.

According to reports, the accused took a flight from Johannesburg and arrived at Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport on Sunday after a layover in Dubai, Shaukat Ali Nurvi, Joint Commissioner of Customs, Delhi Airport said in an official statement said.

10 kg heroin was recovered from one passenger and the remaining from the other. The two had hidden the stash in their bags, they said, adding, 10 kg was recovered from one and the remaining from the other, the official statement said.

“The two were intercepted after they crossed the green channel and were approaching the exit gate of the International Arrival Hall,” the Customs said in a statement. The heroin was found concealed in the checked-in trolley bags.

“On detailed personal and baggage search of the passengers, off-white colour powder/granules found to be ‘heroin’ was recovered,” it added.

“Both were found to be part of a syndicate,” the statement said, adding, had “ingeniously concealed” the drug inside their checked-in trolley bags.

“When the recovered substance was subjected to the drug detection kit, prima facie it appeared to contain heroin,” the official statement further said. The two have been arrested by the officials on charges of smuggling.
