Over 100,000 Palestinians celebrate Eid-ul-Adha at Al-Aqsa
More than 100,000 Palestinian Muslim worshipers celebrated Eid-ul-Adha at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Tuesday.
The worshipers made their way in the early morning hours to the mosque compound to attend the prayers of Eid-ul-Adha, which began at sunset on July 19, and runs for four days to commemorate the Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah, WAFA news agency reported.
After being denied access to the mosque compound by the Israeli occupation authorities, scores of Jerusalemites performed the Eid prayer in the vicinity of Bab Al-Asbat.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound houses both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque and is considered the third holiest site in Islam.
Al-Aqsa is located in East Jerusalem, a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian territories that have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.
In a statement, the Department of Islamic Endowments in Jerusalem said that more than 100,000 worshipers perform the Eid-ul-Adha prayer in the premises of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Since the dawn hours, worshipers have begun to flock to the mosque from all over Jerusalem, chanting the Eid Takbeer as they enter and leave in large groups, through the gates of the Old City and in its alleys.
The Eid prayer came after hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed the mosque last Sunday and Monday. As per QudsNews report, on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah and on Arafa Day, government-backed settlers raids swept the holy mosque. Israeli forces attacked worshipers injuring several of them.
In the Gaza Strip, the Palestinians performed Eid prayers in mosques and public squares, praying Allah to bless them with security and stability and to lift the siege.
The imams and preachers of mosques called on the Arab and Islamic worlds to support and defend Al-Aqsa Mosque against the escalating Israeli violations inside its squares and in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
