India reports 44,230 COVID infections, 555 fatalities in 24 hours

New Delhi: India’s total tally of COVID cases surged to 3,15,72,344 with 44,230 new infections being reported in a day, the Health Ministry of India said on Friday. The recoveries have crossed 3.07 crore.

As per the Ministry data updated at 8 am today, the death count increased to 4,23,217 with 555 new fatalities. Meanwhile, Karnataka and the capital Bengaluru today recorded a steep spike in Covid cases.

Arunachal Pradesh’s tally rose to 47,477 on Friday as 335 more people tested positive for the infection, while one fresh fatality pushed the northeastern state’s coronavirus death count to 225.

The state now has 4,252 active cases, while 43,000 people have recovered from the disease thus far, including 383 in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stands at 90.57 per cent.

More than 45.55 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, the health ministry said. Nearly 47 lakh doses were administered till 7 pm on Thursday.
