5,886 armed forces personnel killed between 1989 to 2019 in militancy-related incidents in JK

New Delhi: The government of India on Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir has been affected by militancy supported from across the border.

Since the beginning of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir from 1989 to August 5, 2019, 5,886 armed forces personnel were killed in militancy-related incidents, India’s MoS Home Nityanand Rai told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

“JK has been affected by (militant) violence, sponsored and supported from across the border. Since inception of (militancy) in JK (from 1989 till August 5, 2019) 5886 (forces) personnel have been killed in (militancy) incidents: MoS Home Nityanand Rai to Lok Sabha in a written reply,” news agency ANI tweeted.

He further said that the Government of India has banned the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) or Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Daesh as a militant organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
