Srinagar: Authorities on Friday disallowed the congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar after permitting once in four months last week.

Eyewitnesses said that the prayers were not offered as authorities had locked the main gate of the mosque with armed forces personnel deployed in front of it.

Last Friday, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid announced that congregational prayers will be allowed at the Jama Masjid. The last Friday prayers were offered four months after the masjid was completely closed for the religious gatherings.

Anjuman Auqaf had said that prayers were suspended due to the rise in COVID cases in Kashmir.
