Srinagar: On the occasion of 8th Muharram today, the Shia mourners were disallowed in several parts of Srinagar, and at places, met with shelling by the police in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk.

The Muharram procession heading from Dalgate towards Lal Chowk was gassed several times to disperse the crowd.

The JK administration had earlier announced that the Muharram procession would be allowed to proceed through the traditional route after 30 years.

However, Tuesday morning, the administration had imposed restrictions in Maisuma, Abiguzar, TRC, Dalgate, Budshah bridge, Gowkadal and Kralkhud areas to prevent the precession.
