‘Fake normalcy’: Put under house arrest, says Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party president and former Chief Minister of Jammu ad Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that she has been put under house arrest and termed the normalcy in Kashmir “fake”.

Criticizing the Government of India, Mehbooba said it expresses the concern for the rights of the people of Afghanistan but wilfully denies the same to Kashmiris.

“GOI expresses concern for the rights of Afghan people but wilfully denies the same to Kashmiris. Ive been placed under house arrest today because according to admin the situation is far from normal in Kashmir. This exposes their fake claims of normalcy,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, authorities imposed a clampdown across Kashmir Valley soon after senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani passed away on Wednesday evening.

Roads were barricaded and key streets were sealed to restrict the movement of people.

Telephony and internet services were snapped except that of lesser-used Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

The services were restored after three days along with broadband services of telecom companies other than BSNL.

However, the Internet services in Srinagar and Budgam district of Kashmir, have not been restored yet.
