Drug Abuse

Group Therapy on model of Narcotics Anonymous Program launched in Srinagar

Srinagar: A group meeting and counselling session was held on Saturday by the behavioural health program Healthy Minds (a KASHMER and HELP Foundation initiative) at Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre, Eidgah Srinagar modelled on the lines of Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

It included patients previously afflicted by drug addiction and substance abuse that have now recovered after comprehensive treatment and are desirous of remaining drug free.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) founded in 1953 by Jimmy Kinnon is a “nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem” and has helped people across communities globally stay in remission from drug addiction.

Healthy Minds (KASHMER) and HELP Foundation along with Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre, Eidgah Srinagar will continue to have regular group therapy sessions for these young people and will also support Narcotics Anonymous meetings for those trying to stay in remission by giving them a place to gather, share experiences and help each other stay clean on the lines of NA group meetings.

During the meeting the participants discussed all aspects of Substance Abuse and how to help each other understand better the genesis and prevention of this menace.

The meeting was attended, facilitated and addressed by Director of YDRC, Dr. Muzaffar Khan, clinical psychologists, counsellors and philanthropists.

These structured meetings will be held every Saturday at YDRC-Eidgah. Gradually the program will be extended to other districts of the UT to ensure maximum participation and help the recovered youth stay well and in abstinence.

Healthy Minds also provides free counselling services at its clinic at Rambagh Srinagar.
