Police books student activists for protesting against ‘state atrocities on Muslims in Assam’

The Uttar Pradesh police filed an FIR under the Epidemic Diseases Act against members of students’ organisations for protesting against the police killings of two Muslims including a minor boy in Assam’s Darrang district last week, Maktoob Media reported.

The FIR was filed in the Kareli police station after the members of the Fraternity Movement, Students Islamic Organisation of India, All India Students Association, DISHA, WPI, PUCL, and Adhvikta Manch gathered at Atala on Sunday to protest against what it described as state atrocities on Muslims in Assam under the garb of land evictions.

The FIR has been registered against Fraternity leader Sarah Ahmad Siddiqui, Sabiya Mohani, Shaheen Fatima, Amit Pathak, Avinash Mishra, Shailesh Pasvan, Kamal Yusri, and over a dozen unnamed activists.
