#JournalismIsNotACrime: Two more journalists detained in Kashmir

Srinagar: Two more journalists in Kashmir have been summoned by the police including photojournalist Junaid Peer from North Kashmir’s Sopore district and Sulaiman Sath from Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Junaid Peer works as a photo-journalist with Urdu newspaper Tameel-i-Irshad, while Sulaiman is associated with Urdu newspaper Daily Gadyal as a freelancer.

The police has said that both the journalist have been called for “investigation”.

The detention comes days after two journalists, Salman Shah and Suhail Dar were detained in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district by the Jammu and Kashmir police for “questioning”.

Salman Shah, 30, editor of an online weekly and 21-year-old Suhail Dar, a freelance journalist, both the residents of Anantnag district, were detained as per their families.

International press freedom bodies have condemned the arbitrary detention and regular summoning of journalists by the police in Kashmir.
