Close aide of LeT commander arrested in central Kashmir, says police

Budgam: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a militant of Lashkar-i-Taiba outfit in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

A senior police officer said that a joint team of Police and Army’s 02 RR, 62RR apprehended an active militant at Pushkar area of the district.

He identified the arrested militant as Hamid Nath, a resident of Peth Zanigam who was active since 26 Feb this year.

He was a close associate of LeT Commander Mohd Yousuf Kantro, Global News Service quoted the officer as saying.

“On a specific input regarding the movement of militants in Poshkar area of Budgam, Police along with 62RR/2RR & 79Bn CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation in the area,” police said in a statement.

During the search operation, the police said, “the joint team arrested an active militant linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT. He has been identified as Ab Hameed Nath resident of Pethzanigam Beerwah, Budgam”.

Incriminating materials including a pistol and a magazine, 05 pistol rounds, and a Chinese grenade were recovered from his possession. As per police records, he was active since Feb 2021, the police said.

A case under relevant sections of law stands registered against him in Police Station and an investigation has been initiated, the statement concludes.
