Srinagar: Uncertainty looms large over the career of B.Tech students studying in Kashmir University and colleges affiliated to it as the varsity is in no mood to take their supplementary and backlog examination anytime soon.
Around 600 students of batch 2017 are pursuing engineering courses in Kashmir University and colleges affiliated with it. The students have missed many opportunities to apply for jobs and many fellowships for pursuing higher studies in foreign countries as they don’t have degrees in their hands.
Students say that University was supposed to take the exams of their last semester in the month of August but it was held in November, giving no reason for the delay, and to add further to their woes authorities are yet to take their backlog exams.
“We have been begging in front of the authorities to take our examinations in August so that we can clear our supplementary and backlogs exams as well on time and will be eligible to apply for various job opportunities and fellowships for higher studies but the varsity turned a blind eye towards our repeated requests,” said Sajid Ahmad, one of the students studying in north campus of Kashmir University.
The students stressed that university is in no mood to conduct our supplementary examination which will delay their degrees further.
The supplementary examination is an opportunity to reappear for End Term Examination only to clear backlogs.
“Authorities released the result of our last semester just a day ago but our degrees are still incomplete because many students have backlogs in their last semester and without clearing backlogs, we cannot apply for jobs and further studies. Also, many students have backlogs in their initial semesters as well which needs to be cleared. But authorities are not conducting our exams which will further delay our degrees,” said a student of Kashmir University on the condition of anonymity.
“The authorities are telling us they will conduct our backlog exams with our juniors but their exams are not scheduled in the recent weeks instead their exams will be conducted next two months which will cost our whole year,” he added.
The students have time and again requested the University authorities to conduct their examination as soon as possible so that their degrees will not be delayed further.
“We are appealing to our professors and examination controller to conduct our exams as soon as possible,” they said.
Examination Controller, Kashmir University, Professor Irshad Nawchoo and Registrar KU, Nisar Ahmad did not respond to the repeated calls from Free Press Kashmir.
