Karnataka: One of the two Muslim men who were ruthlessly assaulted by the workers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nargund area of Gadag district in Karnataka has succumbed to his injuries and another is said to be critical.

On Monday evening, two Muslim men Sameer, 19, and Shamseer, 21 were gruesomely attacked by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers.

Sameer, according to reports, died of his injuries at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital, Hubli next day, and Shamseer is said to be critical.

Reports quoting a local resident of Nargund, Hussain, said the RSS workers stabbed Sameer in the chest with a knife and used a lethal weapon against Shamseer.

Hussain further stated that the attack on the Muslim men occurred shortly after a Bajrang Dal rally in Naragund on Monday, during which anti-Muslim slogans were raised.

In a viral video, Sanju Nalvade, one of the RSS members, was seen calling for genocide against the Muslims.

Hussain told Maktoob media that Sameer worked at a restaurant and was returning back to his home with his friend Shamseer, a photographer who worked at a studio.

According to CCTV evidence, the report said the RSS workers who were waiting at Naragunda State Bank near Sangarwara, halted Sameer and Shamseer’s bike and attacked them with deadly weapons.

So far, four Bajrang Dal and RSS members, including Sanju Nalvade, have been arrested after an FIR was filed at the Naragund police station. Mallikarjuna, Channabasappa, and Sakrappa are the other three arrested. The incident was driven by “hatred towards the Muslim community,” reports said quoting police officials.

Last year, Hindutva extremists ambushed a car in Moodbidri, near Mangaluru, and threatened to burn the passengers for travelling with a Muslim driver.

A meat shop owned and operated by a Muslim couple was allegedly vandalised by a Hindutva group on the outskirts of Belagavi. Two Muslim youths were beaten for wearing skull caps while attending private tuition classes in Bagalkote district.
