Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) on Friday paid rich tributes to the ‘martyrs of Gawkadal’ on their 32nd anniversary and said that despite the passage of more than three decades, the families of the victims are still awaiting justice.

In a statement, AAC said, “There are dozens of such incidents where innocent people were killed in broad daylight, the governments announced so-called enquiry commissions but to this day justice is still awaited in all these cases”.

Meanwhile, AAC expresses deep sorrow and grief over the death of a woman and the burning of half a dozen residential houses in a horrific fire incident in Aali Kadal, a densely populated area of Shahar-e-Khaas Srinagar.

Expressing condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased and the families of the fire victims, the AAC said that immediate relief and rehabilitation of the victims during the Chalai Kalan and severe cold is an Islamic and humanitarian duty and in this regard, welfare and relief agencies and organisations should come and help the victims.

Expressing sympathy and solidarity with the victims, the AAC, especially its incarcerated Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has urged the workers of Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil to immediately visit the area and ensure all possible assistance to the families affected by the fire, the statement concludes.
