Gaya: Amid the ongoing protests by railway job aspirants in Bihar against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), protestors in Gaya on Wednesday set a passenger train on fire.

The agitated protesters vandalised several trains and clashed with the armed police and disrupt several trains, hampering train movement in the state. The protest by aspirants has been ongoing over the selection process of recruitment exams.

Police, as per reports, also resorted to aerial firing apart from lathi-charge and tear gas shells to disperse the agitating aspirants.

“The CBT-2 exam date was not notified. The result is still awaited. We demand cancellation of the CBT-2 exam and release of exam result,” news agency ANI quoted one of the protesting aspirants as saying.

However, the situation now is said to be stable. The report quoting SSP Gaya Aditya Kumar said, “They (protesting aspirants) have set it (coach/train) on fire, we have identified some of them. We want to tell the students that they should not get influenced by anyone, and not damage govt property”.

“A committee has been formed by the govt to look into the matter,” Kumar added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of Railways has announced the formation of a high-powered committee to investigate candidates’ concerns and queries about the results of the first Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) of Centralized Employment Notification CEN 01/2019 of Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) advertised on the 14th and 15th of January 2022 by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

The Ministry in its tweet said, “Candidates may submit their Grievances to Committee till 16th February 2022.”
