India reports 2.35 lakh COVID cases in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India, in the last 24 hours, reported 2.35 lakh COVID cases, which is around 6 per cent lower than yesterday, the Health Ministry of India said on Saturday.

As many as 871 people have died of COVID during the same time period, the Ministry said.

The active now comprises 4.91 per cent of the total infections, while the COVID recovery rate has decreased to 93.89 per cent. 400 districts have logged over 10 per cent positivity rate in the week ending January 26.

The COVID vaccination coverage across India has crossed 164.04 crore doses. Ninety-five per cent of India’s eligible adult population has been administered the first dose of COVID vaccine while 74 per cent are fully inoculated.

Maharashtra saw the sharpest surge in daily COVID deaths since October 6- 103 patients died in the last 24 hours in the state with the highest overall cases in the country (76,55,554). The state recorded a positivity rate of 10.32 per cent. With 24,948 new infections, the state’s daily surge was marginally lower than the day before (25,425).

Delhi continues to register a decline in its daily COVID caseload as it reported 4,044 new infections during the last 24 hours. The positivity rate was 8.60 per cent. The city has 29,152 active COVID-19 cases of which 23,153 are currently in home isolation.
