India reports 58,077 COVID infections, 657 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India reported 58,077 COVID infections, 13.4 per cent lower than yesterday, according to data shared by the Health Ministry of India. This brings the country’s cumulative caseload to 4,25,36,137.

Among all the states, Kerala reported the highest COVID cases at 18,420, followed by Maharashtra with 6,248 cases, Karnataka with 5,019 cases, Tamil Nadu with 3,592 cases and Rajasthan with 3,491 cases.

These five states accounted for 63.31 per cent of the daily new cases reported on Friday, with Kerala alone responsible for 31.72 per cent of the new cases.

In the last 24 hours, 657 people succumbed to COVID, increasing the total reported death count to 5,07,177. Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (341), followed by Maharashtra with 45 daily deaths.

India conducted 14,91,678 tests during the previous day, according to the Indian Health Ministry data.

A total of 48,18,867 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,71,79,51,432.

Total recoveries were at 4,13,31,158 across the country. A total of 1,50,407 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is now at 97.17 per cent.

India’s active caseload stands at 6,97,802. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 92,987.
