Four militant associates arrested in Srinagar, says police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested four militant associates affiliated with TRF outfit involved in ‘providing logistic and other support to active militants’ in Kashmir valley.

“On the basis of reliable intelligence input, it was found that the militant organization, “The Resistance Front (TRF) is active in JK and is being orchestrated by handlers based in Pakistan. Two active militants namely Basit Ahmed Dar of Redwani Kulgam and Momin Gulzar of Eidgah Srinagar are using the network of overground workers in the valley for subversive activities. These militant associates are providing logistic support and are harboring these militants in Kashmir valley,” the police spokesman said.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 10/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Kothibagh and investigation was initiated.

During the course of the investigation, four hardcore militant associates have been arrested so far. They have been identified as Basharat Ahmed Pampori, son of Basir Ahmed Pampori, a resident of Maidanpora Srinagar, Adil Shafi Bhat, son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat, a resident of Daresh Kadal Srinagar, Muzamil Fayaz Sofi son of Fayaz Ahmed Sofi resident of Bagh-e-Sundar Payeen Kaksarai Karan Nagar and Adil Mushtaq Mir son of Mushtaq Ahmed Mir resident of Bagh-e-Sundar Payeen Maidanpora.

“It was also learned that these arrested militant associates were involved in creating content of the threatening posters issued by TRF outfit from time to time. Through these posters they aimed to threaten Govt employees, Police, Armed Forces, elected PRls, and non-local businessmen. Besides, aimed to cause disaffection against the state. It was also found that they had recently provided logistic support to three militants namely Momin Gulzar, Arif Ahmed Hazar and one foreign militant by providing them shelter and also facilitated them in carrying out militant attacks in Srinagar city,” he said.

Further investigation is in progress to identify other militant associates involved in this network, the spokesman added.
