In wake of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, a top Russian general has been killed by a Ukrainian sniper, international media reported. The General’s killing is being considered a crucial blow to the Russian invasion.

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky was the deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Central Military District. He died yesterday while Ukrainians repelled a Russian offensive, Marca reported.

Russia has not confirmed Sukhovetsky’s death. However, one of his colleagues Sergey Chipilyo announced on social media the Major General’s death.

Chipilyov, of the Airborne Forces Union of Russian Paratroopers, confirmed Sukhovetsky’s death on social media earlier today.

“With great pain, we received the tragic news about the death of our friend, Major-General Andrey Aleksandrovich Sukhovetsky, in Ukraine during a special operation,” Chipilyov posted.

“We express our deepest condolences to his family.”

Sukhovetsky’s death lifts the Ukrainian army and social spheres as another encouraging sign that the Russian invasion is not progressing as planned.

On Thursday, the Kremlin admitted that 498 Russian soldiers died and 1,600 are injured during the invasion.
