Srinagar military Op: Two more militants killed, toll 3: Police

Srinagar: Two more militants were killed on Wednesday as a military operation against militants is underway in Nowgam area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, police said.

Three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in the operation, an official said. Earlier, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that these three militants of LeT were involved in the recent killing of Sarpanch Sameer Bhat.

Bhat was critically injured on March 9 as he received two bullets in his chest near his home in Khanmoh Srinagar. He was immediately shifted to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital, where doctors operated him. However, he succumbed to his injuries later.

Earlier on a specific input generated by JK Police, the joint team of Police launched a cordon and search operation in the area, police said.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them triggering the operation.
