Srinagar military Op: 15 arrested for stone pelting, says police

Srinagar: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested 15 persons for stone-pelting during post military operation sanitization in Nowgam area of Srinagar.

In a statement, police said “On 16,03,2022 at Shankarpora Nowgam Srinagar, 03 militants were killed. As per the SOP, the site was being cleared to ensure the safety of citizens. Accordingly, signboards were also placed around the site of operation, while it was being sanitized, to dissuade citizens from approaching the site prior to sanitization with regard to any left-over explosive from the militants.”

Police however said a large unruly mob assembled from adjacent areas of Shankerpora Wanabal carrying lathies and stones in their hands and pelted stones on the deployed nafri. In order to disperse the mob, smoke shells were used, as per the SOPs.

Accordingly, case FIR No. 46/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Nowgam and 15 identified persons were also arrested in the said case, the statement said. (KDC)
