Ramban tunnel collapse: Nine out of ten bodies retrieved, say officials

Ramban: Nine out of ten bodies have been retrieved from the debris of an under-construction tunnel that collapsed near Khooni Nallah area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials said on Friday.

An official told Free Press Kashmir that nine out of ten bodies have been recovered and shifted to district hospital Ramban for further formalities. He said the identification of the dead bodies is underway.

The official added that the traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway has not been hampered by the incident as vehicles ply the thoroughfare smoothly.

Meanwhile, a Twitter handle of Ramban Police also confirmed the retrieving of nine out of ten six bodies from the spot. “Nine out of Ten dead bodies have been recovered and shifted to District Hospital Ramban. Identification of dead bodies is underway. NH-44 open,” it mentioned.

Earlier on Thursday around 10:15 pm, the audit tunnel of T3 on the highway near Khooni Nallah in Ramban collapsed, trapping around 10 workers of Sarla Company working there.

Meanwhile, 10 persons have sustained injuries after a head-on collision between two vehicles- Sumo and tanker- occurred in Parnote area of Ramsu in Ramban, officials said. The injured persons were later shifted to the hospital for treatment.
