Migrant teacher’s killing: Protestors block Srinagar highway, slam JK Admin’s ‘fake’ normalcy claims
Srinagar: Hours after a migrant school teacher was shot dead in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, a protest demonstration against the killing is going on in Batwara area of Srinagar.

On Tuesday afternoon, hours after the killing, scores of the Kashmiri Pandits including women gathered in Batwara and began protesting against the killing.
Shouting anti-JK administration slogans, the protestors lashed out at the JK administration for making “fake claims” that normalcy is prevailing in Kashmir.
“Had there been a normal situation, the killings would not have taken place,” said one of the protesting members.
The deceased Rajni Bala was shot dead in Gopalpora area of Kulgam district as the firing occurred outside a high school where she was posted as a teacher.
The 36-year-old deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment; however, she succumbed to her injuries on way to the hospital.
Pertinently, the attack came days after a social media artist Amreena was shot dead in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Meanwhile, the killing has been condemned by various Kashmiri politicians including the former Chief Ministers of Kashmir- Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the PDP president, condemned the attack and lashed out at the Government of India over the recent spate of civilian killings in the Valley.
“Despite GOIs fake claims about Kashmir being normal its obvious that targeted civilian killings are on the rise & a deep cause of concern. Condemn this act of cowardice which sadly plays into the vicious anti muslim narrative spun by BJP,” Mufti said in a tweet.
National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah expressed pain over and said, “Very sad. This is yet another targeted killing in a long list of recent attacks directed at unarmed civilians. Words of condemnation & condolence ring hollow as do the assurances of the government that they will not rest till situation normalises. May the deceased rest in peace.”
People’s Conference chief Sajd Lone also took to his twitter handle and wrote: “Cowardice has yet again plummeted to shameless depths. A teacher- an innocent female hailing from Samba has been shot dead in Kulgam. May her soul rest in peace”.
When reports last came, police officials were on spot trying to pacify the protestors as the road closure had led to a huge traffic jam in the area.
