New Delhi: Congress member Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the government of India over the killing of a teacher in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, saying Kashmiri Pandits are protesting but ‘BJP is busy celebrating eight years of the Modi government’.
His remarks come a day after school teacher Rajni Balla was shot dead near her school in Gopalpora village of Kulgam by militants.
“Security personnel and civilians are dying in Kashmir and this is the truth and it is not a film,” news agency PTI quoted Rahul as saying.
Quoting him further, the report said, “In Kashmir, 15 security personnel have been martyred and 18 civilians have been killed in the last five months. Yesterday too a teacher was murdered,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.
“Kashmiri Pandits are sitting on a dharna for the last 18 days but the BJP is busy celebrating eight years. Prime Minister ji, this is not a film but it is the truth of Kashmir today,” Gandhi also said.
Earlier in the day, Enforcement Directorate summoned Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in a money laundering case. However, Congress claimed that the case was closed by the investigating agency in 2015.
“The BJP is using puppet agencies to intimidate political opponents. National Heral has a history that goes back to independence days,” Congress member and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, adding that all opposition members including Mamata Banerjee, Farooq Abdullah are under the attacks from agencies. “All companies do improve balance sheet by turning loans into equities, Singhvi was quoted further saying.
“In 2015, the ED closed the National Herald case. But the govt didn’t like it and it removed the ED officials concerned, brought in new officials and reopened the case. This is to divert attention from inflation and other raging problems,” Singhvi added.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “We will not get frightened, we will not bow down.”
“The BJP has in fact disgraced and dishonoured the freedom fighters, the stalwarts of the nation and their contribution to the freedom struggle in which their party and their predecessors have no role,” Singhvi said adding that this is a weird case of money laundering in which no money is involved.
The National Herald case pertains to the alleged misappropriation of assets of over Rs 2,000 crore in an equity transaction.
