Udaipur: The Muslim duo who killed a tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur last week were earlier part of the BJP’s Rajasthan unit and had participated in many political events organized by the party.
After killing the tailor, the accused Riyaz Attari and Mohammad Ghaus, had shared a video on social media saying the act was in response to the derogatory remarks made against Prophet Muhammed-PBUH.
Riyaz Attari, one of the two accused, appeared to have made his way into BJP party events across Udaipur, India Today reported.
Images accessed by India Today show a member of the BJP’s Minority Morcha in Rajasthan, Irshad Chainwala, welcoming Riyaz Attari after his return from pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia in 2019.
Chainwala’s own association with the local BJP unit dates back to more than a decade. The report said Chainwala admitted Riyaz used to attend BJP events in Udaipur.
When the BJP member was shown the picture of him with Riyaz, he said, “Yes, it’s mine,” I garlanded him because he had come back from Umra.”
“Did he attend BJP events?” the reporter asked. “He did. Somebody would accompany him. He attended many events of Gulab Ji (BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria),” Chainwala replied, as per the report.
Riyaz was described by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh member Chainwala as a “dedicated worker of the BJP” in a Facebook post less than two years ago.
Pertinently, the tailor Kanhaiya Lal was killed by the Muslim duo in Dhanmandi market area in Rajasthan’s Udaipur City last week over some inflammatory social media posts backing suspended BJP member and spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Sharma had made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammed-PBUH.
