Srinagar: The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has handed over the twin roads- Chandanwari and Baltal road- to Border Road Organisation (BRO), citing development and maintenance. The thoroughfares lead to the Amarnath cave and witness a huge rush during the 40-day-long pilgrimage every year.
An order has been passed by the Public Works (R&B) Department handing over the twin roads to Border Roads Organization (BRO) for maintenance and management.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the transfer of following tracks leading to Shri Amarnathji Holy Cave from Chandanwari and Baltal axis to Border Roads Organization (BRO) for development, maintenance, and management of Yatra tracks,” Daily Excelsior reported quoting an order issued by Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Government, Public Work (R&B) Department.
The report quoting the order further said all the project reports and work proposals shall be got approved by the High-Level Coordination Committee of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board for its execution.
“Above arrangement for development and maintenance of Yatra tracks shall not disturb the ongoing NH-501 works of development and DPR preparation undertaken by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India. All contracts of PW(R&B) Department and Tourism Department shall be completed by October 2022 and all liabilities related to the development of tracks to be cleared by March 2023,” the order mentioned.
