Military Op against militants starts in Kulgam, 2nd in last 24 hours

Kulgam: A military operation against militants started in Awhatto area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday, police said.

An official said that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched a search operation in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon them triggering the operation.

He said that the exchange of fire was on and two militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

Pertinently, this is the second military operation that Kulgam witnessed in last 24 hours. Earlier, Abu-Huraira, a Pakistani militant affiliated with Jaish-i-Muhammad was killed on Monday evening in Batpora area of the district.

In the operation, two civilians and army personnel were injured. The injured were later shifted to the hospital for treatment where their condition is said to be stable.
