The government of Canada has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan citing security situations in the mentioned areas near the Line of Control, the border between India and Pakistan.

In an advisory issued on September 27, the Canadian government cited the ‘presence of landmines’ in the region along with ‘unexploded devices’ for the states of Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan which border Pakistan.

“Avoid all travel to areas within 10 km of the border with Pakistan in the following states due to the unpredictable security situation and presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance: Gujarat, Punjab Rajasthan,” the advisory reads, according to News 18.

The report quoting the advisory says there are threats of militant attacks across the country while urging Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution.

Last week on September 23, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement asking Indian nationals and students in Canada to remain vigilant citing incidents of ‘hate crimes’ in the country.

“There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commission/Consulates General in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said crimes and take appropriate action,” the MEA had said in the statement.
