Huge funds from GoI must be utilized for local artists: Waqf Board

Srinagar: Waqf Board chairperson, Darakshan Andrabi on Tuesday said that the huge funds being sent to Jammu and Kashmir through the cultural department of the Government of India, need to be utilized for the local artists and that the cultural academy must gear up to preserve and promote the local culture here.

Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of the function, Andrabi, as per the news agency Kashmir News Observer, said that a cultural academy needs to prosper, it must gear up to deliver on the ground.

“The local artists mostly rely on the cultural academy and the huge funds being sent to Jammu and Kashmir through the cultural department, Government of India must be utilized for the local artists,” she said.

She also said that the local artists, who have borne the brunt so far must be given work to earn their livelihood, adding that to ensure it, the cultural academy has to play its role with dedication.

Furthermore, she said that the Sufiyana and Qawwali music at the graveyard of Sufis will continue to be permitted, but no other activity shall be allowed at these places. (KNO)
