Kashmiri journalist wins Rory Peck Award 2022

Srinagar: Kashmir-based photojournalist, Bhat Burhan, has won UK’s Rory Peck Award-2022 for COVID coverage in News Award Category.

Burhan was announced as the winner of the award on Wednesday evening for his coverage of the COVID vaccination in the Indian Himalayas.

The other nominees are Alexander (Sasha) Ermochenko and Pavel Klimov, and Raul Gallego Abellan. The journalist received the award in London.

This Award recognises the work of freelance journalists in the video coverage of a news event where the focus is on the immediacy of the story.

Rory Peck Trust is a United Kingdom-based organization that provides practical and financial support to freelance journalists and their families worldwide, assisting in times of crisis and helping them to work more safely and professionally.

In 2021, Burhan was awarded the Free Press Awards in The Netherlands for his newsgathering.
