Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (JKSCERT) on Wednesday prepared new model question papers for year-end examinations of 8th standard for session 2022-23.

Officials of JKSCERT in a communique have said that the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act, 2019 recommends regular examination in classes 5th and 8th at the end of every academic year.

“In this context, the teachers and the students require proper planning and thorough understanding of the mechanism of the assessment,” it reads.

It also states that “SCERT has prepared model or sample question papers of all subjects for class 8th that will enable the students to plan their preparations and studies for achieving better performance and desired competencies.”

SCERT further said that it will provide a broad template to serve as a guide for ensuring uniformity and proper coverage of the curricula and shall be used for classroom teaching and learning activities with an overall focus on promoting the application of concepts in real-life and holistic learning.

The Council in a communique accordingly notified all the concerned stakeholders that the model or the sample question papers of all subjects for class 8th (Term End examination) Session 2022-23 have been uploaded and are available on the official website of SCERT.

In the meanwhile, JKSCERT in another communiqué mentioning the new model of question paper said that it has initiated a review and revision of the assessment process in light of the recommendations of National Education Policy—2020 and provisions of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act, 2019.

“Regarding assessment and evaluation, the RTE (Amendment) Act, 2019 in its section 16 provides as that there shall be a regular examination in the 5th class and 8th Class at the end of every academic year,” it reads.

However, the annual examination (year-end assessment) of class-VIII, for the current academic session shall be conducted by SCERT as per guidelines according to the scheme of assessment in vogue.

JKSCERT further said that the focus is on Learning-outcomes and model papers will help teachers and students to get a better insight into academics and will help them to know the pattern of questions inside out to perform efficiently in forthcoming assessments. (KNO)
