Israel arrested 490 Palestinians, including 76 children and 12 women in November: Human Rights watchdog
Palestine’s Prisoners Affairs Authority along with Palestinian human rights organizations reported that the Israeli forces have arrested 490 Palestinians last November, of whom 76 are children and 12 women.
The organizations, as per Middle East Monitor, said the arrests took place in the city of Hebron in the West Bank constituted the highest percentage during the month of November, followed by Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jenin, and Nablus.
In a monthly-issued report, Addameer, Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, Wadi Hilweh Information Center and the Commission of Detainees’ and ex-Detainees’ Affairs confirmed that 490 Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces last November, including 76 minors and 12 women, the report said quoting multiple statements.
The highest number of arrests was recorded in the city of Hebron with 135 arrest operations followed by Jerusalem with 123 cases, then Ramallah with 52 cases.
242 administrative detention orders were issued in November against Palestinians, including 120 new orders and 122 renewal orders.
The groups pointed out that there are currently about 4,700 Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons, including 34 women, 150 minors and 835 administrative detainees of whom three females and four children.
The report said Israel uses an old British law that allows it to detain Palestinians administratively, that is, without trial, for periods ranging from 3 to 6 months, subject to extension, under the pretext of having a secret security file against the detainee.
