Civilian escapes unhurt in militant attack in Shopian, says police

Shopian: Police on Sunday said that a civilian was unhurt after militants fired upon him in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

In a statement, Police said that it received information about a militant crime incident in Heerpora area of Shopian. Senior police officers reached the militancy crime spot to ascertain the facts.

Preliminary investigation revealed that militants had fired upon a civilian namely Waseem Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Amin, a resident of Burihalan Heerpora at Main Bazar Heerpora area of Shopian. However, the militants missed the intended target and he escaped unhurt. In this incident, the bullets hit the nearby parked vehicle (swift) bearing registration number JK22A-4422.

Regarding the incident, a case vide FIR No. 116/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Heerpora and an investigation has been initiated, the statement added.
