Bastar: A video has gone viral on social media sites showing a mob vandalizing a church in Chhattisgarh.
The one-minute-nine-second video shows a man smashing a statue of the church while another shoots his video.
Reportedly, over the last three weeks, dozens of anti-Christian attacks were witnessed in the area, forcing thousands of Christians to flee their villages.
Earlier on Monday, a senior police officer sustained head injuries and other security personnel were injured when they were trying to quell a violent mob that vandalized a Church in Narayanpur district in the tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
Sadanand Kumar, the superintendent of police in Narayanpur, received head injuries. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
“Some members of the tribal community went to attack a church in Bangalpara area. During the violence, someone attacked me. An investigation will be conducted into the entire incident,” he told reporters on Monday.
An Adivasi group protesting the subject of alleged forced conversions in Narayanpur convened a conference.
A heated argument between two opposing groups rapidly broke out.
People exchanged blows while chairs and stones were thrown around. It quickly escalated into a fight.
SP Kumar said that protesters arrived near Vishwa Dipti Christian School in the afternoon and tried to charge towards a church located on the school premises.
He said when he along with other officials was trying to specify the protests; he was hit on the head.
