Gujarat: According to Dadra and Nagar Haveli police, a nine-year-old child was abducted, and his head was severed as part of a “human sacrifice” ceremony. The police stated that 100 police officials were involved in piecing the crime together.

Last week, after the decapitated body was discovered abandoned beside a canal at Vapi in the Valsad district of Gujarat, police nabbed a teenage boy and detained two males.

On December 29, the nine-year-old child went missing from Sayli village in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH) region, prompting the police to file a kidnapping report at the Silvassa police station on December 30.

While numerous teams were organised to locate the boy, a decapitated body that matched his description was discovered at Vapi, which is about 30 kilometres from Silvassa, the DNH district’s administrative centre, according to police. While the victim’s body was discovered in a Vapi canal, portions of the body believed to belong to the victim were discovered in Sayli village, the location of the ritual, an official reported. He stated that the body pieces had been transferred for forensic analysis.

“The investigation led the police to a juvenile. He revealed he had kidnapped the victim on December 29, 2022, from Sayli village and murdered him as a human sacrifice with the help of his accomplice,” the police was quoted by NDTV as having said.

The detained juvenile disclosed that his friend Shailesh Kohkera (28) helped him in killing the victim, police said.

“He said one Ramesh Sanwar was also part of the conspiracy. Sanwar prompted the detainee and Shailesh Kohkera to perform a human sacrifice ritual,” it said. Subsequently, Shailesh Kohkera and Ramesh Sanwar were traced and arrested on January 3.
