Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) on Monday formally announced their alliance ahead of the civic polls in Maharashtra.
The alliance was already on the cards as Uddhav Thackeray was in touch for the same for over two months with Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who drafted India’s Constitution.
The two parties held a press conference on Monday afternoon to announce the development.
Addressing the presser, Uddhav Thackeray said, “Both Dr BR Ambedkar and Balasaheb Thackeray have a legacy of attacking the evils of the society.”
“Common people are being kept disillusioned by unnecessary chaos and problems, which is paving the path towards autocracy. We have taken a step to stand against the evil phase,” said the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief.
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar said the alliance of Shiv Sena (UBT) and VBA marking the birth anniversary of Balasaheb Thackeray will bring a new change in Maharashtra politics.
“This move will change the political equations. There have been instances where some parties tried to diminish and finish off their allies, but it is up to people to decide on a political party’s victory. No one can change this democratic process of our nation,” he said.
Speaking about his differences with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, he said, “My differences with him are based on direction and leadership. It is not personal. I still expect them (NCP) to come and join our alliance.”
