The United States Federal Aviation Administration on Sunday said that the airspace over Lake Michigan has been temporarily restricted citing “national defense” reasons.

According to a notice, the airspace was restricted for “national defence” purposes. The airspace has been closed after two unidentified flying objects and a Chinese surveillance balloon were shot down by American planes, Reuters reported.

The airspace has been closed after two unidentified flying objects and a Chinese surveillance balloon were shot down by American planes.

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said on Sunday that Canadian investigators are looking for the remains of the unusual flying item that a U.S. fighter jet shot down over the Yukon Territory, adding that both it and another flying object shot down off the coast of Alaska seemed to balloon.

“Recovery teams are on the ground, looking to find and analyze the object,” Reuters quoted Trudeau as saying. He gave no hint as to what it was but said it “represented a reasonable threat to the security of civilian flight.”

“The security of citizens is our top priority and that’s why I made the decision to have that unidentified object shot down,” he said.

Last week, the US claimed that its fighter jet shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina.
