Wives of armed forces personnel killed in Pulwama assaulted, dragged on road by Rajasthan cops
Jaipur: Days after the father of an armed forces personnel killed in Galwan clash in 2020 was thrashed, arrested, and sent to jail, wives of armed personnel killed in Pulwama Kashmir in 2019 were beaten up by Rajasthan police during a protest against alleged unfulfilled promises on part of the state government.
The video of the incident shows cops dragging and physically assaulting the protesting women. Wife of Rohitash Lamba, one of the slain armed forces personnel, was injured in police action and was taken to hospital.
In a video shared on Twitter, she can be seen narrating the incident. “Why were we attacked? We were there to raise our demands,” she broke down.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Kirorilal Meena, who had also accompanied the protesters, shared the video of the incident on Twitter. He visited Raj Bhavan yesterday, along with the protesters, to submit a memorandum to the Governor Kalraj Mishra
He tweeted that after handing over the memo, when the wives of the Pulwama martyrs reached the chief minister’s residence to meet him, they were assaulted by the police.
The wives of the three slain forces personnel had earlier staged a dharna at the Shahid Smarak over the non-fulfilment of promises that the state government made to them after the attack.
“When my husband became a shaheed (martyr), the ministers who visited us, the media, we all saw them praising him. We thought that we will send our children too to fight for our country. But with folded hands, we say that we will not send our kids…Nobody is with us today. The government doesn’t listen to us, instead uses police to disperse us. Why do they call us Veerangana when our voices are not heard,” Manju told Indian Express on March 3.
Earlier this month, the father of an army personnel who was killed in Galwan Valley clash was thrashed, arrested and sent to jail on the charges of “encroaching village road” by building a memorial of his son on a plot of government land at his village Chakfatah under Jandaha police station area in Vaishali district. He was later granted bail by a court. The incident, however, drew widespread condemnation.
