Shab-e-Baraat: Timings for Isha prayers at Hazratbal, Jamia Masjid Srinagar announced
Srinagar: On the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, Isha prayers will be offered at historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar at 10:00 pm and at the revered shrine of Hazratbal at 10:30 pm, respectively.
Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid told the news agency Kashmir News Observer that after Isha prayers at the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, night-long prayers will start where special repentance prayers will be held.
They also demanded the release of chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who continues to remain under house detention since August 5, 2019.
Meanwhile, one of the management members at Hazratbal Shrine said a huge gathering of devotees is expected at the revered shrine for the night-long prayers. The shrine houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Earlier on March 4, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid expressed resentment over the fact that holy and important events like Shab-e-Baraat is not being held at Jama Masjid for the last four years because the Anjuman head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq continues to be under “illegal and arbitrary” house detention since 5 August 2019.
Anjuman in a statement said there are strict restrictions on the peaceful activities of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir as he is barred from performing his religious responsibilities, which is condemnable.
“Despite repeated appeals to the authorities, it looks unlikely that Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir will be allowed to deliver his sermon at Jama Masjid on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Baraat.”
Anjuman urged the administration to unconditionally release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq by taking into consideration the religious sentiments and feelings of lakhs of people who have been longing to meet their beloved leader and thousands of devotees who come from nook and corner of the valley to Jamia Masjid Srinagar on Fridays but have to return disappointed.
