The former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO and the General Manager of cricket for International Cricket Council, Wasim Khan has said that Pakistan will now opt to choose to play the ICC World Cup 2023 at a neutral venue– likely to be Bangladesh, and not in India.
This statement comes from Khan after the Board of Control for Cricket in India agreed to take part in the Asia Cup 2023 by playing the games at a neutral venue and not in Pakistan.
“I don’t know if it would take place here on in a different country but a neutral venue is highly likely. I don’t think that Pakistan will play their matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Khan told a local Pakistani TV channel.
Earlier, India announced that the team will not travel to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup owing to the security concerns of the players. The PCB retorted back by claiming that Pakistan would boycott the World Cup, set to be held in India in October-November.
The ICC had decided to host a series of meetings where it was decided that India will take part in the Asia Cup but will not travel to Pakistan.
